The capital of France is the French center point for all industrial and academic research, but it is also the most visited city in the World. It offers many opportunities to the workshop participants.
Paris is filled with historical monuments that are famous all around the world: the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe or Notre-dame cathedral, amongst others. It has also a thriving cultural scene, and hosts many World renowned museums such as the Louvre, the Centre George-Pompidou or the musée d’Orsay. Finally Paris is well known for its restaurants and bars which are sure to please the participants.
Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers
The Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers (CNAM) is a research institute supervised by the French Minister for Higher Education. It is a public scientific, cultural and professional institution, classed as a ‘grand établissement’, amongst France's top higher education establishments.
It was created in 1794, during the French Revolution, on the location of a medieval monastery, the royal abbey of Saint-Martin-des-Champs in the center of Paris. Nowadays, thanks to its integrated network, the CNAM spreads higher adult education and life-long training, in France and abroad.
The workshop will be held in the prestigious Amphithéâtre Grégoire (see below).
A welcome cocktail will be organized on the evening Tuesday, June the 3rd, in the "textile" room of CNAM.
The gala dinner will be held in the restaurant of the Musée du Louvre on Wednesday, June the 4th. It will be preceded by tours of the museum’s permanent collection. The Louvre Museum is one of the World's largest museums and a historic monument. A central landmark of Paris, France, it is located on the Right Bank of the Seine in the 1st arrondissement (district). Nearly 35,000 objects from prehistory to the 21st century are exhibited over an area of 60,600 square metres (652,300 square feet). With more than 8 million visitors each year, the Louvre is the World's most visited museum.
The participants who want to enjoy Paris after the Workshop will have many opportunities. In particular, the CNAM museum (Museum of Arts and Crafts) will be open on Thursday night (June the 5th) until 21:30. This prestigious venue houses the collection of the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers (National Conservatory of Arts and Industry), which was founded in 1794 as a repository for the preservation of scientific instruments and inventions. The museum presents seven different collections: Scientific Instruments, Materials, Energy, Mechanics, Construction, Communication, Transportation. In the former church of St-Martin-des-Champs Priory are displayed cars, planes, the Foucault Pendulum and some other monumental objects (see below). The cost of museum entrance is 4.50 €.
